All in a Day

The work submitted for FNDT-160 Core Media Studio, Section 1 is loosely titled All in a Day. For a theme, students initially considered activities that individuals do, spanning from morning to night. The creators were encouraged to adapt and design sequences to employ animation’s unique qualities of movement and visual storytelling.

The construction of the project follows an “anijam” format, inspired by the “exquisite corpse” art-making process, where one person’s work joins with another’s in a blind, peculiarly and wonderfully connected fashion. With this particular project, linking segments started with live-action recordings and elements were either extracted or traced, then evolved to various image-making and animation techniques, and then back to live-action again.

As was the case with most projects in March and April, due to the global pandemic, self-isolation strategies and shelter-in-place, we had to pivot to online course participation. Sadly, not everyone was able to continue to take part in the production.

Creations were by:

  • Lily Liu

  • Tong Fu

  • Emma Mckay

  • Sophia Mok

  • Emily Kao

  • Kasha Malinowski

  • Vivian Zhang

  • Yagmur Kucukakyuz

  • Emily Macdonald

  • Weiwei Wu

These students would have been involved and already did creative preparations for the project:

  • Anya Amarillo

  • Mae Burguillos

  • Alex Choi

  • Akelia Dummett-Deane

  • Tommy Huang

  • Vee Le

  • Keanna Lee

  • Cem Malya

  • Zahra Miremadi

  • Linkster Zeng

  • Viola Zheng

Their support was felt and was appreciated!
